Time zones and group surprises: the part everyone gets wrong

3 min read

The moment you invite people from more than one time zone, “7 p.m.” stops meaning anything. Half your group is asleep, the other half fires early.

Anchor to the recipient

Pick the minute in the time zone of the person being surprised, then show everyone else their own local equivalent. Never make guests do the math.

Reminders should be local, too

A calendar invite carries the zone with it, which is why a reminder ten minutes before the anchored moment works everywhere at once.
